Sowden, Dr. Kenneth Anthony (Tony) Peacefully, at Riverside Glen Long Term Care Facility, on Saturday, January 16, 2010 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Fay Sowden. Loving father of Anne Sowden and her husband Terry Mash of Toronto, and Richard Sowden and his wife Sharon of Guelph. Cherished grandfather of James, Katherine, and Christine, all of Guelph. Tony is survived by his sisters Pam Gutowski and Enid (Bill) Bloomfield of England. Tony was Professor Emeritus, Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Toronto and former Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Toronto. Previously, he was Professor, Clinical Medicine, and Professor, School of Physical & Occupational Medicine, McGill University and Physiatrist in Charge and Director of Rehabilitation, Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff of the Village of Riverside Glen for their dedicated care of Tony and their wonderful support to the entire family. Friends will be received at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, where Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Parkinson Society or Sunnybrook Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards are available at the funeral home, 519-821-5077 or send condolences at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com).
