HENRY, Michael Blair - August 29, 1930 - July 17, 2008. Michael Blair Henry passed away suddenly, at home in Guelph, the morning of Thursday, July 17, 2008, in his 78th year. Michael leaves Joy (Willis), his adoring, precious soul mate and wife of 52 years. He was a very loving and devoted father of Christopher, Peter and Blair (wife Judith). As a proud grandfather, he encouraged Robin and Willis to be the best. Michael will be fondly remembered for his unwavering support of friends and family. Predeceased by his brother, Paul, Michael leaves family in Toronto and area, Markdale, Chilliwack, B.C., and St. John's, Nfld. Born in Toronto to parents, Isabel and Ted Henry, Michael and Paul attended private schools throughout Canada, as sons of an Air Force officer. Settling in Toronto, Michael met, pursued and married Joy Willis on March 10, 1956. Michael began a career in financial services as a trader on the floor of the Toronto Stock Exchange. Transferred to Guelph in 1963 to build an investment business, Mike and Joy and the three boys moved into the house they built, and still call home today. His activities included coaching championship novice hockey teams, summers in Muskoka and ski trips with the family, while being a role model for many. In 1976, Michael left the investment business and accepted the position of General Manager of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce in order to promote the growth of industry and economic well-being of the community to which he had become so devoted. In 21 years of meritorious service, Michael received commendations from the City of Guelph, Ont. and Canadian Chambers of Commerce, and in 1992, he was conferred a Governor General's Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, in recognition for significant contribution to "compatriots, community and to Canada." As a long-time member of Kiwanis and a dedicated Rotarian, Michael directed his energies to the enrichment of his community, friends and family. He was a regular volunteer with the Guelph General Hospital and Meals on Wheels, where he was often late because he took the time to visit with the people-in-need, who became friends. Michael and his comic wit will be missed by his many close friends, who have all been a wonderful support network for Joy and himself. On behalf of the family, thank you all for your kindness and your heartfelt support. Friends of the family are welcome to a visitation at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel , 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, Ont., NIH 4P3, Tuesday, July 22, 2008, 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at 2 pm. at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ont., NIG 4X9.
